Top 10: SWAG:
I’m proud of this film, TF (Telugu Film). Looking back a few years, our cinema often used trans people as punchlines, or portrayed them in stereotypical comedic ways. This perpetuates harmful perceptions. This film breaks from that harmful trend. The script cleverly combines multiple good points. While many films present feminism or critique masculinity, Swag Movie Is different
this one does so with a balanced perspective, not just a flag-waving approach. It properly discusses how equality might come about. For instance, Ritu Verma’s character initially struggles with dependence on a male figure, experiencing setbacks and questioning her own choices.
The narrative confronts societal norms, like assuming civil engineering is a “man’s job” and the limited support Ritu gets from her mother. The mother’s opposition to Ritu’s dance pursuits highlights the difficulties many women face in challenging societal expectations.
The film beautifully develops these characters, including a scene depicting a transgender character’s death. The scene explores a fear of rebirth and the persistence of discrimination beyond the physical realm. It confronts the audience with the idea that death too, Unfortunately, the film “Swag” didn’t perform as expected, despite being a personal favorite; that suggests commercial success and critical acclaim don’t always align.
Top 9: Saripodha Shanivaram:
after The film “Sundarakini,” despite being a personal favorite, didn’t perform commercially as expected. However, the next film from the same team surprised. Instead of playing it safe, they took a completely different approach. Director Vivek Atreya, apparently entrusted with a significant project by Nani under immense pressure, delivered.
The film Saripodha sanivaram is a departure from standard commercial fare, striving for something fresh and unique, and it worked. The inclusion of a top-tier performer like S.J. Suryah solidified the film’s success. The film hit all the right marks at the box office. The clock scene, S.J. Suryah’s dialogues, and Nani versatile performance all contributed positively to the film’s success from various angles.
The film highlights the power of a strong musical score and a well-crafted story by showcasing how a project-focused approach, especially one featuring a well-known pairing like Nani and Vivek Atreya, can create a commercially viable film.
Top 8:Comitee Kurrollu:
comitee Kurrollu Even though it’s a smaller film, a good movie will always resonate with Telugu audiences. This movie is no exception, becoming a hit. The first half is a beautiful nostalgic trip, reminding us of childhood friendships, pranks, crushes, and those sweet memories tied to snacks. It captures the innocence of that time, but then introduces the conflict of how caste divides a group of previously unified individuals.
The movie dramatically shifts from that point, and the sequence from pre-interval to interval is one of the best dramatic stretches this year. Not only is the way the conflict is introduced impressive, but the resolution is equally innovative. The film effectively conveys that change must begin within the people themselves, not in politics or the system.
Top 7:Mathu vadalara:
The dialogue “Mattu vadalara, riya ekkada, riya evaru, damini daughter, damini evvaru, riya mother?” literally shook social media. The line “Mattu vadalara 2” became a huge fan favorite. While there’s a slight apprehension that a sequel might just be a cash grab, Riteish Deshmukh took the character to another level.
He presented our favorite “Hero” in an even more exciting way. However, the highlight of the movie is undoubtedly the character of Yasu. Every scene with him was explosive. We knew something big was coming in the climax, but we couldn’t predict exactly what. The hallucination dance sequence was insane; the entire theater went wild. It was a truly immersive experience.
Top 6: Devara:
“Devar” tells the story of a son who, through his actions, creates a legacy that future generations will admire. The film is described as a poignant exploration of fatherhood and its impact. Some predicted a difficult reception due to it being a sequel and perceived as a departure from the original’s sensibilities. While the soundtrack was a hit, there were doubts about the film’s reception leading up to the release.
But as soon as Tarak appears on screen, he immediately draws the audience into his world. His portrayal of the character is remarkable; the weight of responsibility, the guilt, and the emotional depth are expertly conveyed, particularly in the ship arrest scene and the forest chase. Tarak’s close-ups are a treat to watch. Beyond the emotional core, the action sequences, especially the interval and forest sequences, are well-designed. While there might be some flaws in the film, Tarak’s performance overshadows everything else.
Top 5: Tillu square:
Tillu, from the film, is undoubtedly one of the iconic characters in Telugu pop culture. His unique look, quirky personality, and even his distinctive dialogue are instantly recognizable and have become part of everyday conversation.
The film’s story might be secondary, because Tilly himself is the story. It’s highly entertaining to watch how this eccentric character navigates various situations. The film’s success comes from the sheer Tillu square entertainment value of observing Tilly’s reactions to these predicaments. It’s a highly entertaining film of the year.
Top 4: kalki:
The moment in “Kalki” where the small sprout, Kalki, transmutes onto the Vijaya Dhanush, transforming from a simple stick into a powerful weapon, was phenomenal. Prabhas’s understated delivery of “Acharya Puttra” during this scene was a masterclass in building mass hysteria. The entire theater erupted; it was a truly unforgettable cinematic moment.
It transformed the film, giving it a rewatch value that it otherwise might not have had. The entire first half takes on a different dimension with Prabhas’ character becoming apparent. It truly feels like a scene that could catapult a movie to 1000 crore success!
How did Nag Ashwin keep the sequence from leaking? It’s definitely one of the top three theatre moments of the year, and it’s not just this one scene. For a while, we weren’t expecting stories like this from Telugu cinema. Baahubali paved the way, but “Kalki” is different. It’s a unique blend of mythology and science fiction, and the world-building, a dystopian vision of a post-apocalyptic era, is quite compelling, but also quite risky commercially.
Nevertheless, Prabhas’s conviction and the resulting huge budget helped to realise the director’s vision. The result speaks for itself—taking Telugu cinema to an international stage. We’re all excited about the sequel and particularly curious to see Kamal and Prabhas’s dynamic in the next instalment. It promises to be explosive.
Top 3: Hanuman:
“Hanuman” delivered one of the best cinematic experiences this year. Pre-release, many underestimated its potential, but it went on to create significant records as the biggest Sankranti release in Telugu cinema history. The director expertly crafted moments that captivated the audience, from the interval block to the pre-climax fight sequence and the breathtaking climax. The film’s simple narrative is brilliantly executed, packed with grand visuals that elevate the cinematic experience.
The quality and visuals were unexpectedly impressive, and the devotional touch, coupled with its being a Hanuman-themed film, resonated strongly with audiences across the Telugu states and beyond, making it a nationwide hit this Sankranti. The film’s success was a testament to the power of the big screen and the impact of quality storytelling.
TOP 2: PUSHPA 2:
“Pushpa 2” is raking in the moolah at the box office. A common criticism of the film is the lack of a strong plot, but that doesn’t matter. Pushpa’s compelling character drives the film. His emotional arc, his struggle for self-respect and identity, and his unwavering determination are consistently engaging to watch.
The Jaatra sequence is a standout moment, arguably Alluri Arjun’s career-best performance. The entire 20-minute sequence is a masterclass in physicality, showcasing the actor’s ability to portray emotions and action without dialogue. It’s a truly incredible performance.
Sukumar consistently imbues his characters with an emotional depth that’s deeply affecting. Pushpa’s tears during the climax, holding the wedding card, are emotionally powerful. The movie transcends mere words, delivering an intense emotional experience.
Top 1: Lucky Bhaskar
“Lucky Baskar” is a surprise hit. It’s arguably the most well-rounded film of the year. The entire film is remarkably balanced; there’s no point where it feels dull. The screenplay is innovative, particularly the way Dulquer Salmaan breaks the fourth wall, narrating directly to the audience. This technique draws viewers into Baskar’s journey. The three-act structure is flawlessly executed.
Venky Atluri has significantly improved as a director, and this film clearly demonstrates that. Cinematography, editing, and music are all top-notch. The climax is exceptional. Many filmmakers fail to portray grey characters convincingly, often making them do only good deeds. But “Lucky Baskar” maintains the character’s moral ambiguity throughout, making him feel incredibly realistic.
The film’s biggest twist is Ramki’s (likely the character name) honesty in the end. All in all, it’s a solid, well-rounded film, cementing “Lucky Baskar” as a top film of the year.
Extra Pick’s :

This is definitely a surprise for you, Kiran. Abbaram attempted a genre he hadn’t tackled before, and it worked brilliantly. It’s his highest-grossing film, especially the climactic reveal. This is a film that encourages new attempts at storytelling.
*Pekamedalu:
“Paekamedhu” offers a realistic portrayal of a struggling family, focusing on the negative impact of a lifestyle of questionable income and avoiding responsibility. *Gaami:
The hype surrounding this movie’s trailer was completely justified. The visuals, for this budget, are truly impressive, and the movie’s concept is fresh and experimental. It’s an interesting film.
